Fixed-term 12-month positions are available from February 2027. Anaesthetic Department Overview 12 operating theatres Over 12,000 procedures annually Diverse and comprehensive case mix, including: Paediatrics and obstetrics General surgery Orthopaedics Plastics Urology Gynaecology ENT Ophthalmology Gastroenterology 12-bed ICU/HDU support 24-hour near-site consultant anaesthetic cover after hours 24-hour on-site registrar coverage Training & Development Opportunities Join an enthusiastic and supportive group of consultants committed to building a first-class anaesthetic service Active involvement in service development, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives Progressive exposure leading to confident independent practice across multiple subspecialties, including: Paediatrics Obstetrics Upper GI ENT Orthopaedics Opportunity to obtain 12 months of ANZCA-accredited training time The position Actively involved in perioperative patient optimisation and post-operative follow up care Accept appropriate referrals both internal and external to the hospital, in accordance with the hospital’s role delineation Participates in the preadmission clinic, its structure, resources and the education of medical and nursing staff involved. Contributes to the functioning of the acute pain service. Conducts daily acute pain rounds as per the departmental roster. Proportionately participates in the departmental after-hours roster including weekdays, weekends and public hospitals as required. Contributes to an orderly leave roster within the department to maintain service delivery Capable when required by the department to assume stewardship of the registrar rosters Ensures their practice is appropriately supervised according to their experience level and case complexity as outlined by ANZCA professional documents Participates in training and educational activities for anaesthetic registrars and other members of the workforce. Including crisis management scenarios and simulation activities. Available to assist in airway or resuscitation crises when called upon throughout the hospital You will be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing further training in Anaesthetics. You will bring enthusiasm for developing your clinical skills and contributing positively to a collaborative and patient‑focused department. Desirable attributes for this role include demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in Anaesthetics, with previous exposure to obstetric anaesthesia. Experience with epidural placement and competence in this area will be highly regarded, as will prior experience working in an ICU setting.
