25th May, 2026 Litigation Lawyer / Prosecutor (Contract) Work Health & Safety Prosecutions – NSW Government Sydney | Hybrid (Tue & Thu office days) | Daily Rate Contract A NSW Government litigation team is seeking an experienced litigation lawyer to join a busy and highly collaborative prosecutions practice focused on workplace safety matters. Start Date: TBA Contract Duration: 3 months Pay Rate: $680 per day super Hours: 7 hours per day / 35 hours per week 9am-5pm Location: McKell Building, Sydney Working Arrangement: Hybrid – office attendance required 3–4 days per week depending on business needs This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, high-profile litigation involving workplace incidents and regulatory prosecutions under the Work Health and Safety Act. The role sits within a specialist government prosecutions team appearing in the Industrial Court of NSW. The successful candidate will work closely with senior solicitors and counsel on complex and sensitive matters involving businesses and directors following serious workplace incidents and fatalities. The Role Reporting to a Managing Solicitor, you will: Assist with regulatory prosecutions and litigation matters Review and analyse briefs of evidence from the regulator Draft pleadings, charges, statements of facts and legal correspondence Prepare observations and briefing materials for counsel Instruct barristers and assist with court appearances Manage litigation files and case progression in accordance with court timetables Liaise with defence representatives, internal stakeholders and counsel Support senior lawyers during defended hearings and active litigation Depending on experience, contractors may also be allocated their own files and carriage of matters. About You We are looking for candidates with: Litigation experience within private practice, government or regulatory environments Strong drafting and communication skills Experience working in fast-paced litigation teams Exposure to prosecutions, regulatory enforcement or court-based litigation Experience briefing and instructing counsel The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines Highly regarded backgrounds include: Work Health & Safety litigation Regulatory prosecutions Government litigation teams Environmental or regulatory agencies DPP/ODPP/State prosecution experience Private defence litigation experience involving regulators or prosecutions Important Information This role involves reviewing sensitive evidence relating to serious workplace incidents and fatalities.
