What we are looking for: The SAP Data Migration Lead is accountable for the end-to-end strategy, planning, and execution of data migration activities associated with the movement of an SAP ECC environment from one infrastructure landscape to another (including system carve-outs, environment separation, or replatforming initiatives). This role is critical in ensuring data integrity, completeness, and business continuity throughout the migration lifecycle. The position requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on execution—covering extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliation of SAP data across multiple migration cycles. The successful candidate will operate at the centre of the program, working closely with Basis, Functional Leads, Integration teams, and business stakeholders to deliver a controlled, auditable, and low-risk migration. Responsibilities: 1. Migration Strategy & Planning · Define the data migration strategy for ECC system migration, including: o Full system copy vs selective carve-out approach o Data scoping and object selection o Migration sequencing and wave planning · Establish migration principles, governance, and quality standards. · Develop the end-to-end migration plan, aligned with project timelines and cutover strategy. 2. Data Scoping & Object Definition · Identify and define: o In-scope vs out-of-scope data objects o Historical vs active data requirements o Business-critical data dependencies · Work with Functional Leads to validate: o Master data (e.g. Business Partners, Materials, Assets) o Transactional data (e.g. open orders, financial balances, maintenance history) · Ensure alignment with business, legal, and reporting requirements. 3. Extraction, Transformation & Load (ETL) Execution · Lead the execution of: o Data extraction from source ECC environment o Transformation logic (where required for carve-outs or restructuring) o Data load into target ECC system · Define and oversee data mapping rules and transformation logic. · Coordinate with technical teams on tools and methods (e.g. LSMW, custom programs, database-level extraction where appropriate). 4. Data Migration Cycles & Testing · Plan and execute multiple migration cycles, including: o Mock Loads (pre-testing) o System Integration Testing (SIT) loads o User Acceptance Testing (UAT) loads o Final Cutover load · Ensure consistency and repeatability across all cycles. · Drive issue resolution and data defect remediation between cycles. 5. Data Validation, Reconciliation & Sign-Off · Establish and execute: o Data validation frameworks o Reconciliation processes (record counts, totals, balances) · Ensure financial and operational data integrity post-migration. · Coordinate business validation and formal sign-off processes. 6. Cutover Planning & Execution · Define and lead the data migration cutover plan, including: o Timing and sequencing of final data loads o Downtime planning and business impact alignment · Coordinate closely with: o SAP Basis (system readiness, transports, system copies) o Integration teams (interface readiness) o Business stakeholders (operational readiness) · Lead execution during cutover window and manage real-time issue resolution. 7. Governance, Risk & Quality Management · Identify and manage key migration risks, including: o Data loss or corruption o Incomplete data sets o Business disruption risks o Establish controls, checkpoints, and audit trails. · Provide regular status reporting to project leadership and SteerCo. 8. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer · Develop and maintain: o Data Migration Strategy and Plan o Object-level mapping and transformation documentation o Reconciliation and validation reports · Ensure all migration activities are fully documented for audit and support purposes. Qualification and Experience: · 8 years of SAP experience, with strong focus on data migration within SAP ECC. · Proven experience leading ECC system migrations, including: o System carve-outs / separations o Landscape migrations (on-premise to new infrastructure) · Strong understanding of SAP data structures across key modules (FICO, MM, SD, PM, etc.). · Skills: o Data extraction and load techniques o Data mapping and transformation design o Migration tools (e.g. LSMW, custom ABAP programs, database-level tools) o Strong experience managing multiple migration cycles and cutover events. o Deep understanding of data validation and reconciliation methodologies.
