Tell me about this role: This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cost Modelling / Cost Planning and Forecast Estimation professional to play a key role within ACEASPO , supporting the delivery of complex Defence and cooperative capability programs. Working as part of an integrated workforce, you’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy while contributing specialist commercial and financial expertise across cost modelling, forecasting, and reporting activities. You’ll be a trusted point of contact for costing enquiries, working closely with project teams, senior Defence stakeholders, and international partners to support informed financial decision‑making and achieve project financial objectives. What will I be doing day to day? In this role, your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include: Lead and support cost modelling and cost estimation activities for unapproved funding across ACEASPO and assigned projects Develop and refine cost forecasts and financial phasing to support future cooperative arrangements, while considering portfolio and budget pressures Provide specialist financial and commercial advice to project teams, senior executives, and stakeholders across the AEA Enterprise Engage with international partners and other SPOs , contributing to cooperative project cost estimation and financial management activities Review and advise on the financial aspects of procurement activities , including tender evaluations, ETPs and S23 processes Support the standardisation and delivery of financial reporting , including monthly reporting and Annual Progress Reports (APRs) Assist with the development and uplift of team capability , including mentoring, guidance, and input into training and development planning Contribute to and clearing key planning and governance documentation , ensuring compliance with Defence costing policy and processes Build and maintain productive relationships across project teams, executives, and external stakeholders to enable high‑quality outcomes What sort of skills do I need? To be successful in this role, you’ll bring: 5–7 years’ experience in cost estimation, cost modelling, and forecasting , ideally within Defence, CASG, or complex government environments Strong knowledge of Defence financial management, costing policies, and procurement processes Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills , with the ability to assess complex financial data and translate it into clear insights Strong written and verbal communication skills , with confidence engaging stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives and international partners Demonstrated ability to prioritise work, adapt to changing demands , and deliver high‑quality outcomes to tight timeframes Australian citizenship and a minimum NV1 security clearance What’s in it for me?
