About our Department The Hematology Department provides comprehensive diagnostic haemato-pathology and transfusion services to SVHM and external health services and providers and is located in the main hospital building of the Fitzroy campus of SVHM. About the Role An opportunity currently exists for a Laboratory Haematologist to join the Pathology team on a fractional fixed term (maternity leave backfill) basis. The position requires attendance in the Haematology Laboratory of St Vincent’s Pathology to provide high quality haemato-pathology service to the patients of SVHM and the external clients of St Vincent’s Pathology.in a supportive multi-disciplinary team environment. Duties Diagnostic Haematology reporting including blood and bone marrow morphology, general and special haematology reporting (including flow cytometry, haemostasis/coagulation, haemoglobinopathy, molecular and miscellaneous special testing) and transfusion Provision of advice on appropriate Haematology and related testing, interpretation of Haematology and related test results, laboratory and clinical transfusion matters, anti-coagulation, including outpatient warfarin dosing Teaching/education, especially of Advanced Trainees in Laboratory Haematology Contribution to quality assurance activities including case review meetings where available Participation in the medical laboratory haematology on call roster Skills and Experience Essential: Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) in Haematology (or equivalent) Registration with AHPRA as a specialist laboratory haematologist Current participation in RCPA CPDP programme (or equivalent) Desirable: Previous experience as a consultant haematologist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory Previous experience with teaching/training of junior medical staff Effective communication skills and the ability to engage and successfully with staff, patients, relatives and colleagues.
