The Role This is a broad and genuinely interesting leadership role for someone who enjoys the commercial and operational side of fleet management as much as the strategic. You'll be part of the fleet and equipment leadership team, working closely with senior leadership to deliver outcomes across the business. The remit covers strategy, supplier relationships, risk, budgeting, and day-to-day operational delivery across a national fleet of approximately 2,500 vehicles and associated equipment, spanning VIC, TAS, NSW, and QLD. You'll have four direct reports and a wide stakeholder group, from frontline depot teams through to executive leadership. The current incumbent is moving into a new role internally, and the business is looking for someone who can build on a solid foundation and bring their own thinking to the position. What You'll Be Doing Much of the focus in this role sits at the intersection of commercial management and operational performance, making sure the fleet is running well, that suppliers are delivering on their commitments, and that the business has clear visibility of costs, risks, and opportunities. You'll own the fleet and equipment strategy from capital planning and lifecycle decisions through to day-to-day performance, manage complex outsourced fleet arrangements, and lead Opex and Capex budgeting alongside executive and board-level reporting. Maintaining a presence in the field is an important part of the role, with roughly one depot visit per week and interstate travel around once a month. You'll also spend meaningful time developing your team and building commercial capability across the broader group. What We're Looking For We'd love to hear from people who have spent their careers in asset and operationally intensive environments. Utilities (electricity, gas, water, telco or defence), tier one infrastructure contractors, or heavy transport are all backgrounds that would serve someone well here. You'll be comfortable navigating the competing demands of availability, cost, and risk, and you'll have the commercial experience to make sound decisions when those priorities pull in different directions. Strong contract and supplier management experience is important, as is the ability to engage comfortably with both field teams and senior stakeholders. Around ten or more years in senior fleet, asset, or operational management would be a typical profile, alongside solid financial literacy and a relevant tertiary qualification. The Package $215,000 – $225,000 total package inclusive of super, with an annual performance bonus of up to 15%. Based in Melbourne CBD with national travel as part of the role.
