Production Horticulturist – Coomealla NSW Kogan People Solutions, recruiters, are assisting a farm management as they seek a skilled and experienced Production Horticulturist. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated horticulture professional to manage production operations, optimize crop yield, and contribute to our growing business. Location – Coomealla, NSW Salary – Negotiable in the range $69k to $79k plus superannuation per annum Tenure – Full-time and ongoing Key Responsibilities Production Management: Plan, supervise, and manage all production horticulture activities across assigned crops, ensuring yield targets and timelines are met. Technical Monitoring: Monitor plant health, soil conditions, and irrigation requirements. Implement precise nutrient management and soil health programs. Operational Coordination : Coordinate the full lifecycle of the crop, including pulling, planting, seeding, picking, and packing. Chemical & Pest Management: Develop and oversee Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Manage chemical spray schedules in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., APVMA) and maintain rigorous application records. Biosecurity & Food Safety: Establish and enforce site biosecurity protocols and ensure all activities comply with food safety standards (such as Freshcare, HARPS, or GlobalGAP). Technology & Efficiency: Utilize horticultural technology (e.g., soil moisture probes, climate control systems, or harvest software) to optimize resource efficiency and water usage. Post-Harvest Quality: Oversee quality control, grading standards, and cool chain integrity to ensure produce meets customer specifications and shelf-life requirements. Staff Leadership: Train and supervise horticultural staff and seasonal workers, providing inductions and technical mentoring to ensure best-practice techniques. Infrastructure Oversight: Identify maintenance needs for specialized horticultural machinery, irrigation systems, and farm infrastructure to minimize downtime. Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and environmental standards, maintaining a clean and organized farm environment. Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed production records, harvest reports, and compliance documentation . Selection Attributes Education: Qualified to Certificate IV in Horticulture or an agreed equivalent. Experience: At least 3 or more years of post-qualification experience in a similar commercial production environment. Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of modern horticultural practices, including crop-specific physiology and pathology . Leadership: Proven ability to supervise diverse teams and coordinate complex workflows efficiently. Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot crop issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives . Adaptability: Willingness to work in regional locations and perform manual tasks in a variety of weather conditions . Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and staff instruction.
