Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future. Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a System Integration Architect in Canberra to work on Land Capability projects . What You'll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: Advanced network engineering expertise , including designing, building, implementing and managing complex Land, Joint and Coalition networks (WAN/LAN), virtual server environments and cross‑domain solutions. Strong cybersecurity and systems ‑ integration capability , with experience managing security architectures, identifying vulnerabilities, implementing countermeasures and integrating new technologies into Defence systems. Proficiency in automation, scripting and CI/CD , supporting innovation projects and enabling efficient configuration, testing and deployment across Defence environments. High ‑ level technical documentation and analysis skills , including system design reviews, engineering documentation, bill‑of‑materials development, and evaluation of COTS/MOTS/in‑service technologies. Training, troubleshooting and stakeholder ‑ support capability , including delivering technical training, resolving hardware/software/network issues, and supporting subsystem integration across Army, Navy and Air Force technical personnel. What You'll Bring Advanced network engineering expertise , including designing, building and managing complex WAN/LAN environments across Land, Joint and Coalition domains, with strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IEEE802.3 and IEEE802.11 standards. Virtualisation and systems ‑ integration capability , with hands‑on experience in VMWare, Hyper‑V, KVM, cross‑domain solutions, subsystem integration and incorporating COTS/MOTS/in‑service technologies. Cybersecurity and automation skills , including managing security architectures (ForeScout, Splunk, McAfee), implementing countermeasures, troubleshooting issues, and conducting scripting, automation and CI/CD activities. Strong technical documentation and analytical skills , able to produce engineering documentation, bills of materials, system designs, network modelling and capability assessments for Defence stakeholders. Training and stakeholder ‑ support experience , including developing training packages and delivering technical instruction to Army, Navy and Air Force personnel, while supporting innovation and modern C2 system integration. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
