Mission To deliver safe, compliant, and efficient energy solutions through technical innovation and rigorous adherence to the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) rules. As an Energy Market Modeller , you will be responsible for ensuring that conventional power generation assets (such as coal, gas, or hydro) in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) meet the technical and regulatory requirements of the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) . This role focuses on the management of Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and Generator Monitoring Plans (GMP) , specifically tailored to synchronous generating units in Western Australia. Key Responsibilities WEM Compliance & GPS Management : Develop and manage Generator Performance Standards (GPS) in accordance with Western Power’Technical Rules and Section 1.40 of the WEM Rules. Oversee the implementation of Generator Monitoring Plans (GMP) to provide continuous evidence of compliance to AEMO Manage Trigger Events and Negotiated GPS submissions Engineering Analysis for Conventional Plant : Conduct studies on Synchronous Generating Units , including active/reactive power capability and temperature dependency data. Analyse Disturbance Ride Through and Continuous Uninterrupted Operation (CUO) capabilities for thermal and hydro plants following network faults. Review and validate exciter, governor, and Power System Stabiliser (PSS) settings to ensure stability under WEM Power System Stability Requirements. Modelling & Data Maintenance : Maintain and submit RMS and EMT Generation System Models in DIgSILENT PowerFactory Ensure models are integrated with the Western Power model of the SWIS and remain updated following any plant modifications. Regulatory Liaison : Act as the primary technical contact for Western Power (as the Network Operator) and AEMO . Report any non-compliance incidents to AEMO in accordance with the WEM Self-Reporting Regime Qualifications & Skills Education : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Experience : Experience with conventional power generation (synchronous machines) and their specific control systems. Strong understanding of the WA Electricity Industry Act 2004 Technical Proficiency : Proficient in PowerFactory and PSCAD for model validation and stability studies. Familiarity with high-voltage (HV) switchgear, protection settings, and secondary systems. Soft Skills : Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships within the WA energy sector. High proficiency in technical report writing and data analysis
