About the Role An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Accountant to join a high-performing finance team within a major NSW Government environment. This role will focus on delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic financial operations across the business. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders to provide financial insights, improve reporting processes, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function. Position: Accountant Rate : $600 - $700 per day super Location : Sydney CBD Working Arrangement : Hybrid working environment Start Date : ASAP Duration : Until 31 October 2026 with possible extension Application Window : 3 days Key Responsibilities Prepare statutory financial reports, management reports, and reconciliations in line with government and accounting standards Deliver accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting outcomes within strict deadlines Provide financial analysis, budgeting support, and variance commentary to internal stakeholders Develop briefing notes, financial advice, and reporting packs for senior management with minimal supervision Support compliance with NSW Treasury guidelines, taxation obligations, and financial governance frameworks Review and improve financial controls, accounting processes, and reporting procedures Assist with audits and respond to audit findings in a timely and professional manner Collaborate with finance teams and operational stakeholders to improve financial performance and reporting capability Monitor general ledger integrity, chart of accounts maintenance, and transactional accuracy Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across finance systems and reporting tools Support forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities Mentor junior finance staff and contribute to a positive team culture where required Prepare presentations and executive-level reports using advanced Excel and PowerPoint capabilities Work across ERP and financial systems including SAP environments and reporting platforms such as TM1 About You Demonstrated experience working as an Accountant or Senior Accountant within commercial or public sector environments Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, statutory reporting, and compliance frameworks Previous experience working within NSW Government or large enterprise environments will be highly regarded Advanced Excel skills including financial modelling, pivot tables, formulas, and reporting automation Strong PowerPoint and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly Experience using SAP, SAP TM1, or similar ERP/reporting systems is highly desirable Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and proactive approach to problem solving Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance CA or CPA qualification, or eligibility for membership, is highly regarded Australian working rights are required for this position.
