About the Role: As an AOD Counsellor, you will deliver evidence-based therapeutic support to clients aged 13 years and over. You’ll provide comprehensive assessments, counselling, brief interventions, advocacy, and education to a diverse client group—including self-referrals, family members, and individuals referred through the criminal justice system. The Strong Steps Program is focused on empowering participants to better manage and overcome drug and alcohol challenges in a supportive, culturally safe environment. Key Responsibilities: Deliver client-centred, strength-based, and culturally appropriate therapeutic services Conduct assessments, screening, counselling, and brief interventions Provide advocacy, education, and referral pathways for clients Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Build and maintain relationships with community organisations Maintain accurate client records and case notes in line with policy and legislation Contribute to program evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement Participate in supervision, training, and professional development Promote a safe workplace in line with WHS requirements About You: You are a compassionate and skilled professional with a strong commitment to supporting people experiencing AOD challenges. You will have: A minimum Diploma in Counselling (or higher in Social Work, Psychology, or related field) Experience delivering therapeutic interventions within a recognised framework Knowledge of current AOD best practice and treatment approaches Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to diverse client needs Ability to work both independently and within a team Sound understanding of confidentiality, legislation, and ethical practice Strong administration, documentation, and computer skills Highly Regarded: Experience in the AOD or community services sector Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities Knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples Experience delivering counselling, brief intervention, and advocacy services Requirements -Pre-employment: Current NT Ochre Card (or ability to obtain) National Criminal History Check NT Driver’s Licence (C Class minimum) Current First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain) Mandatory Reporting Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Negative drug and alcohol screen If you are interested in this opportunity, apply now or give Rell a call on 08 8982 1047 to find out more.
