In this role, you will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred clinical care, with exposure to both Paediatrics and Neonatal services. You will bring a strong interest in Paediatrics and neonatal care, responding to patients’ medical needs while also playing an active role in the education, supervision and mentorship of junior staff. Communicates with patients about their condition and management or with the immediate family if the patient is unable to comprehend within their scope of knowledge and understanding, and counsel patients and parents as necessary (within the scope of knowledge and understanding of the situation). Contributes to all aspects of clinical care of patients who are admitted to hospital; commit to a team approach in the delivery of care, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, members of pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite. Arrange and document and follow-up results of investigations, including radiology, pathology, microbiology, haematology, biochemistry etc. Co-ordinate multidisciplinary management of patient, including consultation requests for Allied Health or other medical specialties and nurse case managers. Prescribe drugs for inpatients, write owing prescriptions and authority prescriptions in a timely manner. Perform basic procedures within their capabilities or with senior supervision if required e.g. venepuncture, intravenous cannula insertion, ECG, suprapubic aspiration, catheterisation, lumbar puncture. Participate in Paediatric Emergency MER calls and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Opportunities for 1st on-call Perform Newborn resuscitation (including intubation, obtaining central venous access such as umbilical vessel access, chest needling). Contribute to discharge planning of each patient; arrange outpatient follow-up, referrals to tertiary unit, prescription of discharge medications with pharmacist. Attends outpatient clinics as required Carries pagers while on duty and participates in after –hours and weekend rosters. Participate in continued medical education sessions, such as intermediate and advanced life support, NRP. Participate in peer review and quality improvement initiatives. You will hold current registration, or be eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia. A minimum of 12 months’ Australian experience as a Paediatric Registrar is required, including demonstrable experience in the assessment, management and stabilisation of acutely unwell paediatric and neonatal patients. You will have successfully completed a neonatal resuscitation course (NeoResus) as well as Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS). You will be capable of participating in paediatric emergency (MER) responses and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and demonstrate competence in newborn resuscitation, including endotracheal intubation, establishment of central venous access (such as umbilical venous or arterial catheterisation), and emergency chest procedures.
