HarperLloyd Recruitment is partnering with a highly regarded national insurance law firm to appoint a Senior Insurance Lawyer (Defendant) to its team in Sydney. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Insurance lawyer seeking high-quality work, genuine flexibility and a long-term career pathway within a well-established and respected insurance practice. With a strong and consistent pipeline of insurer and self-insured client work across personal injury and/or property-related claims, this role offers exposure to complex, high-value matters while working alongside experienced and nationally recognised Partners. The role: Your day will involve acting for insurers and self-insured clients in defendant insurance matters, including: managing end-to-end personal injury claims (CTP, public liability and/or workers' compensation);or acting in property damage and general insurance disputes (including recovery matters); advising on liability, indemnity, quantum and strategic case management; drafting pleadings, evidence and complex advices; negotiating settlements and mediations; appearing in courts and tribunals (where appropriate to level); working directly with insurers, claims managers and corporate clients; and collaborating with Partners and senior practitioners to achieve strong commercial outcomes. The role can be tailored to candidates with a personal injury focus, property focus, or a combination of both . Who you'll be working with: You will join a well-established defendant insurance team comprising Partners, senior practitioners, lawyers and dedicated support staff. The firm is known for its technical strength, long-standing insurer relationships and a professional, down-to-earth culture. Partners are hands-on, approachable and genuinely invested in building sustainable careers for their people. About you: The ideal candidate will have: 5 years' PAE (or equivalent) in defendant insurance; experience in personal injury and/or property insurance matters; strong technical capability balanced with commercial judgement; confidence managing matters and client relationships autonomously; clear, practical and authentic communication skills; a collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring junior lawyers; and for senior candidates, an appetite to contribute to practice growth (business development experience welcomed but not essential).
