In this role, you will be responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of network infrastructure that powers AWS services globally. You will work alongside talented engineers to solve complex networking challenges at scale, automate operational processes, and drive improvements that enhance the reliability and performance of our network. Key job responsibilities - Design, deploy, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including routers, switches, and optical transport systems across AWS data centers and backbone networks - Develop automation tools and scripts to streamline network operations, reduce manual toil, and improve operational efficiency - Perform root cause analysis on complex network incidents and drive resolution to minimize customer impact - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, systems engineers, and network architects to deliver scalable network solutions - Participate in on-call rotations to support 24/7 network operations and ensure high availability of AWS services - Contribute to capacity planning, network design reviews, and the development of operational best practices and runbooks - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement A day in the life Our team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the network infrastructure that underpins AWS services globally. As a Network Development Engineer, your day may start with reviewing network health dashboards and addressing any overnight alerts. You might spend the morning collaborating with your team on a network automation project, writing Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks. After lunch, you could be deep-diving into a complex routing issue, analyzing packet captures and BGP route tables to identify the root cause. You'll regularly participate in design reviews, share knowledge with peers, and work on projects that directly improve the reliability and scalability of the AWS network.
