EDF Power Solutions Australia Pty Ltd is searching for an experienced Network Planning and Power Systems Modelling Engineer to join their team. The position is based in Sydney and offers a remuneration package of $165,000 per annum. The position shall provide service on Network Planning expertise and power system modelling to Verta Energy Consortium for the development of the New England REZ ’s design in the context of the Network Operator Package RFP launched by EnergyCo. The Network Planning and Power System Modelling engineer (the Role) reports to the Technical Lead of project, which is the EDF Australia Transmission Project Manager, and to EDF CI2T at a functional level. The Role will lead the modelling of the New England REZ within the Technical stream of the Verta Energy Consortium and ensure effective communication with the appointed D&C and EnergyCo. Key tasks and responsibilities: Responsible for the electrical engineering modelling (Power Systems Modelling) of the New England REZ in the Technical Stream; Ensure electrical engineering modelling tasks are strictly carried out in compliance with the Project, EnergyCo, AEMO requirement and comply with NER Rules and Australian Regulations with the aim to secure a robust an effective design for the New England REZ, optimizing the costs by “value engineering”; Ensure the electrical engineering modelling studies comply with industrial best practice on system modelling together with internal EDF systems and processes and automated tools tailored to the project; Use electrical engineering modelling and studies to deliver a robust, optimized and flexible design for the NEW England REZ challenging EnergyCo’s reference design, Work in close collaboration with EDF CI2T resources and manage local engineering companies partnering with the consortium developing the NE REZ Tender Support the electrical interfaces between the Network Operator, D&C and OEM in the definition of the detailed design and the main characteristics of the equipment provided by the OEM Manage electrical risk and technical opportunity analyses, define and implement associated mitigation measures Ensure technical options and recommendations are being challenged to maximise the value for the project and minimise technical risks. Support the evaluation of the Reference Design and Technical Specifications provided by EnergyCo; Support evaluation of the design to ensure compliance with the strategic sources expressed by the Verta Energy Consortium in terms of "Whole of Life" requirements; Propose updates to the Technical Specifications to comply with Australian norms and standards, best international standards, and EDF projects experience; Responsible for assessing a range of cases allowing to stress-test the New England REZ design with min and max scenarios (thermal capacities, voltage, SCR, etc) Responsible for evaluating the performance of the electricity network in terms of margin and system strength requirements, Responsible for validating the detailed design and equipment characteristics provided by the D&C and selected OEM Responsible for compliance with the quality, costs and deadlines (QCD) associated with the production of studies. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering Skills and Experience: Minimum of 10 years' experience as an engineer in the energy industry Minimum of 5 years' experience as an engineer for transmission networks or power systems Experience in the use of PLS CADD, TOWER Experience in the development of automatization and python routines Experience in the use of PSS/E, PowerFactory, PLEXOS. Experience in masterplan and power system modelling design of large networks in an international context. Strong business acumen with an ability to work with multidisciplinary project teams to assess the value, risks and returns of an opportunity, and maximise return within acceptable risk profiles Professional and thorough approach to greenfield project development with a strong understanding of technical deliverables Track record and technical experience of developing and delivering network modelling studies Technically astute: the ability to analyse complex issues in relation to system modelling Understanding of risk management and capable of identifying and analysing risk and opportunity implications French language skills are advantageous
