The Opportunity An exciting opportunity exists for an Electronics Engineer to join our Research & Development team based in Macquarie University, Sydney. In this role, you will contribute to the development of innovative, life‑changing medical devices by designing, verifying, and supporting high‑quality electronic solutions across the full product lifecycle. Your responsibilities include: Design electronic circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout, for implantable and external medical devices. Translate system and product requirements into robust electronic design solutions that meet user and regulatory needs. Participate in technical problem solving, design reviews, and solution brainstorming. Collaborate with local and remote teams on PCB layout, manufacturing, and component selection to ensure design quality. Produce and review high‑quality design documentation, including design descriptions, risk analyses, failure analyses, dFMEAs, verification protocols, and reports. Develop test jigs and automated test systems to support verification and production readiness. Write, review, and execute verification protocols and reports, ensuring accurate and compliant documentation of results. Write and maintain test automation scripts (e.g. Python or similar). Prototype and evaluate technologies required for future product development. Actively identify and support opportunities for process, quality, and efficiency improvement. About You. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience: Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Strong understanding of electronic circuits and components, both analog and digital. Experience using electrical CAD tools for schematic capture, simulation, and PCB layout. Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ideal Experience Approximately 2 years’ experience in electronics design and verification. Experience in a highly regulated industry, such as medical devices or defence. Exposure to audio circuits, RF circuits, and wireless communication systems. Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout. Experience with Python and/or embedded firmware development.
