As our highly valued API Engineer based in Brisbane your role will be to design, build, and support domain APIs that underpin the bank’s digital customer experiences. You will work with Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, and established API standards to deliver secure, reusable, and high-performing integration services. Your APIs enable digital self-service capabilities that help customers bank how and when they choose Engineering •Apply established API design standards and reusable patterns to support consistency, scalability, and maintainability. •Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices to support quality, resilience, and safe change. •Engineer APIs with appropriate observability, performance, and scalability characteristics, aligned to enterprise standards. •Integrate APIs with identity and access management solutions to support secure authentication and authorisation. Delivery •Deliver working APIs from solution designs and architectural blueprints, seeking guidance where required. •Deploy and support APIs on OpenShift and AWS in line with operational, security, and risk requirements. •Work with architects, security, and platform teams to ensure solutions are safe, scalable, and supportable. •Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve automation, monitoring, and delivery practices. Collaboration •Work closely with engineers, testers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end API solutions. •Collaborate with the Integration Technical Lead and senior engineers to learn and apply enterprise integration patterns. •Share knowledge within the team and actively seek feedback to grow technical and delivery capability. •Support a culture of reuse, simplification, and quality across the engineering community. Do things differently with us To succeed in this role, you will have: We know great engineers come from different backgrounds. Experience in software engineering with a focus on API design and development (typically 3–5 years, but we’re open to different pathways). Hands-on experience building APIs using Java and/or Kotlin with Spring Boot. Understanding of API standards, integration patterns, and reusable service design. Experience deploying or supporting APIs on containerised or cloud platforms (e.g. OpenShift, AWS). Familiarity with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines. Hands-on experience working with AI Tooling to help drive efficiencies and more robust solutions. Exposure to observability, monitoring, and performance practices.
