A place for you. It means more here. We bring true purpose, authentic people and a proven path. You bring you. The Opportunity At Shine, we champion better justice for our clients. We are seeking experienced senior finance business partners, with experience leading a long-term finance portfolio, to support the Sydney CBD-based head of class actions in our new finance manager role. This role is an embedded finance role sitting within Shine’s class actions practice (not Shine's finance team). This role partners directly with the head of class actions and practice leaders to drive financial discipline, matter-level insight and portfolio performance across a complex and growing class actions portfolio. The role focuses on forward-looking commercial advice, budgeting and forecasting, cost control and financial insight at both matter and portfolio level, while working closely with Shine's finance team to ensure alignment with group financial governance and reporting requirements. This is a rare opportunity in an established ASX-listed firm where you will join the business as an embedded finance expert. You will work directly with senior lawyers on the commercial management of complex, long running matters, bringing clarity, foresight and discipline to a high value class actions portfolio. If you are motivated by strategic impact, autonomy and influencing outcomes at the point of decision, you will find depth, challenge and genuine ownership in this role. Here’s how you’ll help us stay ahead of the pack by: Overseeing end‑to‑end financial management of individual class action matters, including budgets, forecasts, estimates and ongoing cost control across the matter life cycle. Providing timely, accurate commercial insights to partners and practice leaders to support decision‑making, proactively identifying risks, variances and cost overruns at both matter and portfolio level. Leading annual budgeting and regular forecasting for the class actions practice, translating matter‑level data into clear, accurate portfolio reporting aligned to group financial requirements. Acting as a trusted commercial advisor to senior lawyers, influencing outcomes through strong relationships and constructive challenge, while supporting financial ownership at matter level. Support and monitor supplier engagement frameworks, including experts and barristers, overseeing spend against agreed budgets and assumptions while driving improvements to financial processes, systems and controls in partnership with the Group's finance and technology teams. What you’ll bring To thrive in this role, you will have: Significant experience in management accounting, financial management or finance business partnering roles within a professional services, project-based or complex operational environment. Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting for complex portfolios or multi-year projects. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to engage credibly with senior non-financial stakeholders. Experience working in or alongside legal, consulting, infrastructure, engineering or similar professional services environments is advantageous but not essential for success. Experience working with complex cost drivers and external suppliers is desirable. The ability to quickly learn the economics of class actions matters is essential. CA or CPA qualification, or equivalent. Shine Lawyers: A place for you. It means more here. At Shine, purpose really matters. It’s our clients, who summon the courage to stand up to injustice.
