This opportunity sits with a leading Australian IT consultancy that is steadily expanding its footprint in the Canberra market. With a strong focus on Microsoft cloud technologies, secure digital platforms and enterprise transformation, the business works across a mix of federal government and large commercial clients. Their model centres on high-quality consulting, modern engineering practices and long-term client partnerships, rather than high-volume delivery. There are two permanent Cloud Engineer roles available: One role will operate within a highly secure Zone 4 environment, supporting defence or national-security aligned programs The second role will work across more standard government environments without the same security restrictions We are ideally looking to appoint permanent hires who want to build a longer-term consulting career. However, exceptional candidates who fully meet the technical and clearance brief may be considered under alternative contracting arrangements where appropriate. The Role You will work as part of a client-facing engineering team, designing, deploying and supporting secure cloud and hybrid platforms, primarily across Microsoft Azure environments. Responsibilities will typically include: Designing and implementing Azure-based infrastructure solutions Supporting hybrid environments integrating cloud and on-prem systems Automating deployments using Infrastructure as Code tools Working with security, identity and governance controls Supporting migration, optimisation and platform modernisation programs Engaging directly with client stakeholders to deliver technical outcomes The work will vary depending on the client and environment, with the Zone 4 role focused on highly regulated, secure programs, and the standard role operating across enterprise and government cloud initiatives. You will bring: Strong experience across Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity) Experience in a similar consultancy or government environment Exposure to hybrid infrastructure combining cloud and on-prem systems Strong communication skills and a client-facing mindset Understanding of security frameworks, ideally including Essential Eight Level 2 You will be an Australian citizen and need to hold a minimum of an NV1.
