Who we are: NHP are specialists in Electrical and Automation Products, Systems and Solutions 100% Australian owned, with 55 years of Electrical and Engineering excellence! Local choice with the power of global partners 16 branches throughout Australia and New Zealand Driven by a team of over 750 dedicated and committed employees “At NHP we recognise that our people determine the success of our business”. About the role Join NHP Electrical Engineering Products and help design the next generation of reliable, high-quality solutions for the electrical industry. If you love turning requirements into robust, manufacturable products—and enjoy collaborating from concept through validation—this is your role. As a Design Engineer, you’ll develop innovative, practical and high-quality engineering solutions that meet customer needs and business objectives. You’ll translate requirements into detailed designs, create prototypes, support product development through validation, and ensure outcomes are functional, manufacturable, compliant and aligned with market expectations. WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT Own designs end-to-end: concept, detailed CAD, prototyping, test/validation and release. Work closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Commercial Engineering and manufacturing partners. See your work in the market—improving performance, reliability, cost and time-to-market. Bring rigor to technical risk management, testing and continuous improvement. WHAT YOU’LL DO Develop detailed product designs that meet specification, functional, safety and quality requirements. Translate technical requirements and customer needs into practical engineering solutions. Create and manage parametrically driven 3D CAD models (e.g., PTC Creo, SolidWorks) and 2D CAD drawings (e.g., AutoCAD). Produce high-quality, dimensioned component and assembly drawings and release packs. Identify technical risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and define/execute tests to demonstrate risk reduction. Use appropriate engineering equations and calculations to validate design choices. Leverage simulation tools (e.g., FEA/CFD) to improve design performance where applicable. Support prototyping, testing and validation of new designs—working through issues to a robust solution. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability (DFM), compliance and cost targets. Facilitate stakeholder design review sessions and concept development/brainstorming workshops. Create customer-facing installation and assembly instructions and other technical documentation. Use PLM systems to control CAD files, revisions, BOMs and engineering change records. Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools and product quality. WHAT YOU’LL BRING Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Product Design Engineering. 5-10 years’ experience in product design and development within a manufacturing/engineering environment. Strong capability in parametrically driven 3D CAD (e.g., PTC Creo, SolidWorks) and 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD), including drawing creation and layout. Proven experience producing accurate, dimensioned component and assembly drawings. Competent in selecting and applying engineering equations and calculations to support design decisions. Hands-on experience supporting prototyping, testing and validation. Ability to identify technical risks, define mitigation strategies, and design tests to demonstrate risk reduction. Working knowledge of DFM, value engineering and cost optimisation. Familiarity with PLM tools for CAD file control, revisions and engineering change. Confident communicator who can facilitate stakeholder review sessions and collaborate across functions. HOW YOU’LL WORK You’ll thrive in this role if you combine curiosity and creativity with solid engineering judgement, and you enjoy working with others to move designs from concept to release. Structured problem-solver with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Comfortable working with ambiguity in early concepts and bringing clarity through options and trade-offs. Collaborative approach with the confidence to lead discussions, reviews and workshops. Clear documentation habits and commitment to quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
