The WHS Lead will be primarily focused on the logistics function, working within a high-volume, blue-collar, transport-focused environment with significant exposure to heavy vehicle operations and road safety risk. The organisation has undergone significant change over recent years and is now entering a period of growth. As it continues to mature, there is a strong focus on strengthening safety capability and embedding more proactive, systems-led safety leadership across operations, making this a critical role to the ongoing success of the business. About the Role The WHS Lead will be responsible for leading safety across the logistics division, including transport, fleet, and collections operations. This is a hybrid strategic and hands-on role, requiring someone who can review existing systems, identify gaps, and drive meaningful improvements across safety processes, policies, and operational controls. The focus is on shifting from reactive safety management to a more proactive, prevention-led approach. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, with strong exposure to both operational and executive leadership teams. Key Responsibilities Lead safety across the Logistics function, ensuring safe systems of work are understood, implemented, and continuously improved Review, uplift, and where required rewrite safety policies, procedures, and operational frameworks Drive a proactive safety culture focused on risk identification, prevention, and frontline leadership accountability Ensure compliance with all relevant transport and safety legislation, including the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), and ISO 45001 standards Analyse incidents, identify trends and root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions Lead or support serious incident investigations using structured methodologies (e.g. ICAM) Conduct regular site visits to observe operations, coach leaders, and identify unsafe conditions before incidents occur Oversee and improve safety reporting systems and risk registers Provide assurance to senior leadership on critical risk areas, safety performance, and regulatory exposure Engage with regulators and industry bodies as required Support and embed training, toolbox talks, and safety communications across operational teams Candidate Requirements Proven experience in a Safety / WHS role within logistics, transport, waste, or similar heavy industry environments Strong understanding of HVNL, Chain of Responsibility, and fleet/road safety risk Experience reviewing and improving safety systems, policies, and procedures Ability to influence operational leaders and drive behavioural change across frontline teams Strong incident investigation capability (ICAM or similar methodology) Experience working with safety management systems and risk registers Confident communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership Proactive, process-driven, and comfortable working in a changing and evolving environment Relevant WHS qualifications (Diploma or higher preferred) Culture You’ll be joining a business that has moved through a significant period of change and is now entering a growth-focused phase.
