About the Role The ALS Environmental Division in Smithfield are seeking a highly organised Sample Receipt Officer to be the first point of contact in our busy lab. In this role, you’ll be responsible for receiving, sorting, and registering samples, liaising with clients, and ensuring smooth sample distribution. You’ll also handle phone and email inquiries while maintaining accurate records. Ideal candidates have strong attention to detail, great communication skills, and a customer-focused mindset. TAFE or university qualifications are a plus but not essential. This role is a permanent morning and/or afternoon shift position; shift times are from 9am-5:15pm and/or 2pm-10:15pm Monday to Friday . The Day-to-Day Allocating batch numbers to samples. Ensuring Senior Chemists and Section Team Leaders are aware of urgent samples or anomalous occurrences. Organising dispatch and receipt of freight (bottle orders and samples); Communicating with other ALS laboratories regarding ambiguities in sample paperwork or the condition of the samples received. Preparing sample receipt advice forms. Dispatching subcontracted samples and returning samples where requested by the customer. Updating all relevant paperwork including the customer fax or email - back COC for customer specified changes after informing Senior Chemists. Photocopying the original COC and all relevant information as soon as possible for appropriate distribution. Preparing samples; including sub-sampling, compositing as directed by customer or Customer Service. Placing samples in the cool room in the appropriate order after they have been logged. Maintaining sample fridge and other sample store areas. Organise timely sample storage and disposal of samples. Composing sample numbers and flow figures. Maintaining records of eskies dispatched and received. Ensure any special customer / project requirements are met. Other duties as requested relating to this position. The Essentials: A genuine interest in the Science industry TAFE or university qualifications desirable but not essential. Positive and responsive with a customer focus to deliver professional and quality service.
