ABOUT THE ROLE The Accountant - Tax supports the effective management of the organisation’s taxation obligations by assisting in the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant tax reporting, governance, and advisory activities. Through effective stakeholder engagement, technical support, and continuous improvement initiatives, the Accountant - Tax assists in maintaining a strong tax governance environment and provides taxation input into ad‑hoc projects, including restructures, acquisitions, and other strategic business initiatives. Responsibilities of the role include: Tax Compliance & Reporting: Support the preparation/review and filing of various tax returns, including income tax, GST, FBT, and other relevant taxes. Assist with the timely reporting of tax obligations in collaboration with the Manager - Tax and ensure compliance with Australian tax laws and regulations. Transfer Pricing: Assist with the preparation/review of transfer pricing documentation and compliance, ensuring intercompany pricing policies are in line with regulatory requirements. ATO Engagement & Audit Management: Provide support in managing ATO engagements, including tax audits, reviews, and responding to ATO inquiries. Assist the Manager - Tax in addressing any tax disputes or investigations effectively and ensuring the company’s compliance with ATO requirements. Tax Governance & Risk Management: Maintain and enhance the established tax risk management framework, ensuring adherence to processes and continuous improvement in tax governance practices. Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company's operations. Software Implementation Support: Assist with the ongoing implementation of income tax and GST-related software, ensuring smooth integration and efficient use across tax compliance and reporting functions. Cross-border Tax Compliance: Collaborate with the overseas parent company’s tax team to manage various global and Australian tax matters. Tax Provisioning: Assist in preparing tax provisions for financial statements and ensuring tax accuracy in reporting, including liaising with external auditors during the audit process. Ad-hoc Tax Projects: Provide tax support for ad-hoc projects, mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring activities in collaboration with senior management. Stakeholder Engagement: Support in being one of the points of contact for tax-related matters, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and implementation of processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax reporting and compliance. CPA/CA qualification, or completion of relevant tax certifications. Minimum 3 experience in corporate tax. Demonstrated experience in Australian tax compliance and reporting, with exposure to cross-border tax issues. Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse complex tax issues, interpret tax legislation, and provide practical solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams (Manager - Tax, Head of Finance, CFO) and external stakeholders (tax advisors, auditors, tax authorities). Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Ability to work with international teams and adapt to the company's global approach while understanding the nuances of local tax regulations. Strong understanding of Australian tax law, including income tax, GST, FBT, and other indirect taxes. Familiarity with international tax principles, transfer pricing regulations, and managing cross-border tax compliance. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with financial software (SAP) or a tax software is a plus. Desired: Experience within a multinational company or a public accounting firm. Experience working in or with a global finance team, exposure to tax planning, and cross-border compliance initiatives is an advantage.
