Maintenance / Grounds Officer - Animal Shelter | North Melbourne Work somewhere that makes a real difference Our client provides care and support to lost, stray and unwanted animals, helping give them a second chance. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team keeps the facility safe, clean and running smoothly - and that's where you come in. We're currently seeking a hands-on Maintenance / Grounds Officer to support the day-to-day upkeep of a busy animal shelter in North Melbourne. This is a practical, varied role where your work directly contributes to the wellbeing of animals, staff, volunteers and visitors. What's on offer Ongoing casual role - 4 to 5 days per week 8:00am to 4:00pm (some flexibility) $35.00 per hour (inclusive of casual loading) Supportive, team-focused environment Meaningful work in a purpose-driven organisation Variety across indoor and outdoor tasks About the role This is a hands-on position where no two days are the same. You'll be responsible for maintaining outdoor areas, assisting with general repairs, and ensuring all facilities are safe, functional and well-presented. Key responsibilities Grounds & Gardening Maintain lawns, garden beds and outdoor areas (mowing, weeding, pruning, watering) Keep pathways, entrances and common areas clean and presentable Remove green waste and general rubbish Maintain outdoor animal exercise and enrichment areas Maintenance & Repairs Carry out minor repairs to fixtures, gates, fittings and kennels Assist with general maintenance projects across the site Ensure storage and work areas are clean, safe and organised Safety & Compliance Follow WHS procedures and report hazards Safely use and maintain tools and equipment Support safety checks and general facility upkeep What we're looking for Essential Hands-on, proactive attitude Reliable and able to work independently or within a team Practical problem-solving skills Able to adapt to a changing, fast-paced environment Desirable Previous experience in maintenance, handyman or trade-related roles Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 20kg How to apply If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, click 'Apply' and submit your current CV, including two referees.
