Downer is seeking an experienced Project Manager based in either Townsville or Mackay who will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of multiple asphalt and spray seal projects, managing time, cost, quality, safety and stakeholder expectations across North Queensland. This role plays a key part in driving Downer's Zero Harm culture and strengthening relationships with clients, suppliers and government partners. Flexibility with travel is a must! KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead day‑to‑day depot operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasting and financial reporting. Plan and coordinate labour, plant, and materials effectively across projects. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and government stakeholders. Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to supervisors and operational teams. Drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and efficiency initiatives. Contribute to organisational planning, strategy, and market growth objectives. Champion a Zero Harm culture, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and fatigue management requirements. ABOUT YOU Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred) or Diploma of Civil Construction / Business, or equivalent proven experience. Approximately 10 years' experience in asphalt or bituminous surfacing, with senior management exposure. Proven experience managing large operational teams and complex civil construction projects. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting. Sound knowledge of WHS, quality, and environmental management systems. Experience working with State and Local Government contracts. Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills. Flexible with travel when required.
