About the program : AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace. Your responsibilities will include: We’re seeking a Support System Architecture Team Lead to join the AIR6500 Operational Continuity team. In this role, you’ll lead a team of engineers while shaping how support systems are designed and delivered for one of Australia’s most advanced Defence programs. This is a unique opportunity to define and lead the Support System architecture for AIR6500 by combining systems engineering, operational continuity, and sustainment to ensure the system is reliable, supportable and mission-ready from day one. You’ll play a key role in designing how the system is supported across its lifecycle, working across engineering, logistics, ICT/cyber and sustainment teams to deliver a cohesive, fit-for-purpose Support System. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of the AIR6500 Support System architecture ensuring alignment with operational continuity and sustainment needs Manage and mentor a team of engineers, setting clear technical direction and priorities Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, ILS, ICT, cyber, infrastructure and sustainment Ownership to ensure the design meets supportability, reliability (RAM), safety, security and environmental requirements Support design reviews, resolve technical challenges and maintain end-to-end design integrity About you: You’re an experienced Systems Engineer or Architect with a background in Operational Continuity, Support Systems or ILS and you enjoy leading teams while solving complex system-level challenges. You bring a strong mix of technical depth and leadership, and are comfortable working across multiple disciplines to shape practical, long-term support solutions. Essential skills & experience: Strong experience in systems architecture and systems engineering lifecycle Background in Operational Continuity, Support Systems or Integrated Logistics Support ( ILS ) Experience leading or mentoring engineers and coordinating technical work Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments Experience ensuring design integrity, integration and technical assurance across complex systems Engineering degree (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or similar) An active NV-1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information.
