About Us : Equine veterinary practice About You : Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent Ongoing professional development and mandatory workplace training as required Position Summary : The Veterinary Nurse plays a critical clinical support role at Golden Plains Equine, providing high-quality nursing care to equine patients and supporting veterinarians in the delivery of safe, ethical, and professional veterinary services. The role is responsible for patient care, clinical preparation, medication and stock management, client communication, and maintaining a clean, compliant, and well-functioning equine hospital and clinic environment. Key Requirements : Essential Qualification as a Veterinary Nurse or equivalent practical experience Experience working in a veterinary or equine clinical environment Sound understanding of infection control, WHS, and animal welfare standards Strong observation, communication, and organisational skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, public holidays, and on-call shifts as required Demonstrates respect, care, and professionalism in all interactions Acts with integrity and ethical judgement Maintains confidentiality and professional boundaries Supports a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused workplace culture Desirable Experience in equine veterinary nursing Experience assisting with anaesthesia, surgery, and diagnostic procedures Knowledge of equine behaviour and safe handling techniques Physical and Environmental Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, restraining horses, bending, and prolonged standing Ability to work outdoors and in stable environments in varying weather conditions Exposure to animals, bodily fluids, chemicals, and cleaning agents Job Responsibility : Clinical Nursing & Patient Care Provide general nursing care and monitoring of hospitalised and ambulatory equine patients Administer treatments and medications as directed by veterinarians Observe, assess, and promptly report any changes in patient condition or behaviour Assist with patient handling, restraint, and movement in accordance with safety protocols Support pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care Surgical, Anaesthetic & Diagnostic Support Prepare patients, equipment, and facilities for veterinary procedures Assist with radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, and other diagnostic procedures Assist in anaesthesia under veterinary supervision, including patient preparation, monitoring, equipment set-up, and recovery care Set up and maintain surgical theatres, ensuring sterility and infection control standards are met Sterilise surgical instruments and maintain surgical packs Medication, Pharmacy & Stock Management Prepare, label, dispense, and store medications in accordance with veterinary instructions and legislative requirements Maintain accurate medication records and pharmacy controls Monitor stock levels and notify senior staff of items requiring replenishment Conduct routine stocktakes and assist with ordering supplies Ensure compliance with chemical handling, storage, and disposal regulations Equipment, Vehicles & Facility Management Clean, maintain, and correctly store all clinical equipment Ensure veterinary vehicles are stocked, clean, organised, and prepared for clinical use Identify equipment faults and maintenance needs and report promptly Maintain a clean, safe, and professional clinic and hospital environment Client Communication & Administration Liaise professionally with clients regarding patient updates, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care Communicate clearly between clients and veterinarians to ensure accurate information flow Assist with client billing, invoicing, and reconciliation of veterinary charges where required Maintain strict confidentiality of client, patient, and business information Workplace Health, Safety & Compliance Comply with all workplace health and safety, infection control, and biosecurity standards Identify and report hazards, incidents, or near misses Follow all Golden Plains Equine policies, procedures, and professional standards Participate in mandatory training, inductions, and performance reviews Job Functions : Vet Job Benefits : TBC Selling Point : TBC Contact : Madeline Taylor
