About the role AGL has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Portfolio Cost Specialist (Controller) to join AGL’s Construction - Planning & Performance team, supporting the delivery of large‑scale energy infrastructure projects across AGL’s Energy Assets portfolio. This role can be based out of AGL’s Sydney or Melbourne corporate offices , with flexibility to work from AGL offices and occasional travel to project and operational sites as required. You’ll be part of a high‑impact, collaborative team working at the centre of AGL’s transition to a more sustainable energy future. What you will be doing As a Portfolio Cost Specialist, you will provide expert cost estimation, budget baselining, forecasting and cost performance insight across AGL’s construction portfolio, supporting transparent decision‑making and strong delivery outcomes. Key aspects of the role include: Developing and reviewing detailed client-side construction cost estimates across projects of varying scale and complexity, ensuring accuracy, consistency and alignment with approved scope Establishing, maintaining and monitoring project budget baselines, forecasts and actuals in line with the Construction Operating Model Leading project cost monitoring and reporting cycles, including variance analysis, trend analysis and forecast‑at‑completion Monitoring commitments, actuals and accruals, ensuring appropriate coding, timing and alignment with work breakdown and cost structures Identifying cost risks, opportunities and emerging issues, supporting escalation and mitigation strategies as required Providing evidence‑based cost insights to support lifecycle gates, governance forums and senior decision‑making Supporting re‑forecasting, baseline changes and recovery scenarios through robust cost analysis Partnering with planning, risk and project delivery teams to support integrated cost‑schedule‑risk performance insight What you will bring To succeed in this role, you will bring strong construction cost expertise, analytical capability and the ability to operate confidently across complex project environments: Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Finance or a related discipline Certification in cost and estimating (e.g. AACE CCP / CEP or equivalent) highly regarded Demonstrated experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects with cost estimating, budgeting and forecasting (ideally managing EPC, D&C and JV contracts) Strong capability in cost monitoring, variance analysis, trend analysis and cost performance reporting Sound understanding of the interface between cost, schedule and risk at a project level Experience supporting governance reviews, lifecycle gates and portfolio‑level reporting Well‑developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and delivery teams Ability to apply sound professional judgement in complex, fast‑moving and highly regulated environments At AGL, we offer a wide range of benefits including: Flexible working options Discounts on energy, telcos and solar plans Participate in Energise – our reward & recognition program Access 20 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary carer Access to an additional week of recharge leave per year Play an active role in our diversity & inclusion initiatives Novated leasing and Electric Vehicle subscriptions Access to study assistance, AGL’s share purchase plan and insurance deals Benefits may change over time and vary based on role type and location.
