Description About this role: The Government Liaison Officer has primary responsibility for being the key point of contact for government liaison and corporate and government reporting for Icon Water. The role sits within the External Relations branch, who are responsible for supporting the business to ensure coordinated, consistent, quality messaging and data to external stakeholders including the Icon Water Board, Regulators, our Voting Shareholders and industry bodies. Other Key Responsibilities Includ e: Provide the key point of contact with ACT Government on Icon Water corporate matters. This includes reactive and proactive engagement. Provide high level pro-active advice and reporting to the Executive on the performance of Icon Water as it relates to government and Shareholder accountabilities. Develop, maintain and manage professional relationships with Icon Water’s executive, managers and their staff in order to collate accurate reporting data. Manage Icon Water’s investigation and response to customer and community issues escalated to members of Government (Ministerials). Coordinate and author content for Icon Water’s key corporate communication documents – Annual Report to the ACT Government and Icon Water’s Statement of Corporate Intent. Lead the development of briefings to support Executives’ engagement with Voting Shareholders. Lead the preparation and coordinate organisational input to briefings for the attendance of Icon Water’s Executive at ACT Legislative Assembly hearings. Manage Icon Water’s responses to ACT Legislative Assembly business including questions on notice; questions taken on notice; motions; budget speeches etc. Provide high level advice to Executive and Managers to support meaningful participation in industry associations, including developing, managing and maintaining the relationship with key Industry stakeholders, development of internal processes for nominations (awards, attendance at conferences, memberships, working groups etc.) and ensuring that memberships are strategically aligned to Icon Water’s purpose, values and strategic objectives. Monitor the political and industry landscape and identify areas for escalation and/or reporting to Executive and Icon Water staff; and manage any planned responses if required. Support the media team to ensure that shareholder and stakeholder interests are well represented in plans for media advocacy, preparedness plans for media, crises and other external issues including the coordination of up to date holding statements in relation to matters of key interest to Icon Water’s shareholders and key corporate stakeholders. Other duties within the employee’s skill, competence and training. Who we are looking for: We are looking for suitable candidates who hold relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, government policy or a related discipline (desirable). You should also have the following experience: Extensive experience in high-level report writing. Experience and understanding of the machinery of government, particularly in relation to government policies and strategies as well as Icon Water’s obligations, responsibilities and operations as a government owned company. A knowledge and understanding of all Icon Water’s procedures, plans and policies, where there is an expectation of full compliance or an ability to develop this knowledge.
