Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes, namely the Deflector and Deflector South West deposits. Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Communications Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting remote‑controlled underground mining equipment, including hardline communication systems used with Caterpillar loaders. The role ensures reliable control, monitoring, and connectivity to support safe and efficient underground operations. Secondary responsibilities include installing and servicing fibre‑optic cabling throughout the underground mine, maintaining the site’s communications infrastructure, and providing support for instrumentation systems used in mining operations. This position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton. Key responsibilities of this role will include: Install, inspect, and maintain two-way radios, repeaters, and in-vehicle communication systems for heavy and light mobile equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot fleet management, telemetry, and condition monitoring systems Ensure reliable Wi-Fi, LTE, or microwave communications across workshops, pits, mobile equipment and underground network Conduct routine preventative maintenance and fault rectification on communication and network infrastructure used by the mobile maintenance team. Maintain, Troubleshoot and repair the Hardline remote operating system in its entirety onsite. Provide support to the Maintenance team with low voltage electrical systems. Provide timely support to maintenance teams to resolve communication and connectivity issues impacting equipment or data flow. Assist with the setup and configuration of new equipment, radios, and onboard monitoring devices. Work collaboratively with the IT and operations teams to support data transfer and system integration. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment configurations, and issue resolutions. Identify recurring issues and recommend system improvements to enhance reliability and performance. Support implementation of new communication technologies or system upgrades within the maintenance environment. Assist with testing and rollout of new telemetry or fleet monitoring solutions. Participate and support development of relevant trade competencies that the business outlines in alignment with the job role during ongoing employment such as Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications, Electronics, or Information Technology (or equivalent trade qualification). About You: Relevant competency in communication systems with mobile equipment and mining infrastructure Demonstrated experience in maintaining and troubleshooting two-way radio and in-vehicle communications systems. Familiarity with fibre, copper, and wireless communications. Proven ability to work safely and independently in a mining or heavy industrial environment. Working knowledge of mobile fleet management or telemetry systems.
