Psychologist About the job Full-time or Part-time| March/April 2026 start date Want to do psychology that actually matters — the kind where you build real skills, work with complex presentations, and become the clinician people trust in the hardest moments? At Billy Cart Behaviour, we support individuals across the lifespan with disability, complex psychosocial needs, high support requirements, and risk/behaviour complexity — and we do it with a strong focus on neuroaffirming practice, clinical reasoning, and genuinely supportive supervision. This role is ideal if you’re a psychologist who wants to: â build confidence in complex work (without being thrown in the deep end) â develop advanced assessment and intervention skills â learn how disability and mental health intersect in real life â contribute to the Canberra community through meaningful mental health support too Why Psychologists Love This Role Disability complex support work is one of the most rewarding (and clinically rich) pathways in psychology — and it builds skills that transfer across everything: • Deep formulation skills • Trauma-informed practice in real-world settings • Working with risk, safety planning, and complex systems • Supporting families, carers, and teams • Seeing change that actually improves quality of life You won’t just “do sessions.” You’ll learn how to support clients whose needs are often misunderstood — and become a more confident, capable psychologist because of it. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll work across disability and complex psychosocial presentations, while also contributing to local mental health clients. Disability Complex Client Support (Primary Focus) You’ll support people across the lifespan with presentations such as: • Autism, intellectual disability, ADHD and neurodevelopmental differences • Complex trauma and attachment-related needs • Emotional regulation difficulties and high distress • Dual disability mental health presentations • High support needs / high risk environments • Complex family systems and service coordination needs Your work will include: • Therapy and skill-building tailored to the person (not cookie-cutter programs) • Working with families, carers, schools, and support teams • Practical strategies that improve everyday life, not just symptom checklists • Report writing that helps clients access what they actually need Local Mental Health Clients (Secondary Focus) Depending on your interests and skillset, you may also work with: • Anxiety, depression, adjustment stress • Emotional regulation challenges • Trauma and psychosocial presentations • Young people, adults, and families in the Canberra community Supervision & Learning (A Major Priority Here) We actively want psychologists who are excited to learn this field — and we provide the structure to help you do it well. You’ll get: • Regular, supportive supervision that builds real clinical skill • A team who will case consult with you, not leave you isolated • Opportunities to learn complex assessment, formulation, and intervention planning • Mentoring in working with disability systems (NDIS, schools, support networks) • A workplace that values safe, ethical practice over rushing and burnout This is a role where you can grow into complex work with support, not pressure. Why You’ll Love Working With Us • Flexibility that actually means flexibility – work in a way that suits your life • A caseload that builds your clinical depth – disability complexity real outcomes • Neuroaffirming, strengths-based practice – respectful, modern, person-centred • Professional development support – training, learning pathways, and CEU/PDU contributions • Collaborative culture – peer consults, multidisciplinary thinking, shared wins • Creative freedom – write resources and reports in a way that works for your clients (easy-read, visuals, digital tools) About You You’re curious, values-driven, and ready to grow into complex work with a supportive team around you.
