Job Description The Nurse Advisor (NA) provides professional policy and advocacy support to the Principal Nurse – Professional Advisory and contributes to the Australian College of Nursing’s (ACN) strategic objectives. This role involves researching, analysing, and contributing to the development of policy documents, submissions, and projects that address key issues impacting the nursing profession and the broader health and aged care systems. In alignment with ACN’s Strategic Directions, the NA supports Professional Advisory Portfolios to deliver outcomes that are evidence- informed, member-focused, and advocacy-driven. The role also fosters collaboration across ACN to ensure policy outputs are strategically aligned and responsive to emerging trends, while helping to strengthen the nursing profession’s influence in national health policy and promote its value across the sector. Essential Registered Nurse with current registration in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Demonstrated experience contributing to the development and analysis of health and/or clinical policy, preferably within government, health services, or professional organisations. Strong understanding of evidence-based policy development and its application to nursing and health systems. Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and impactful written materials (e.g., briefs, reports, submissions) and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to co-develop policy and advocacy outputs. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate options and develop practical solutions. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high- quality outcomes in a dynamic environment. Desirable Postgraduate qualifications in health policy, public health, nursing, or a related field such as social or political sciences. Experience working within professional or peak bodies, or in roles involving cross-sector collaboration. Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to ACN’s values and mission. Proactive, adaptable, and outcomes-focused, with a positive and resilient approach to change.
