About the Role As the Policy & Advocacy Advisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping policy positions, strengthening government relationships, and driving advocacy efforts that advance equitable health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys a balance of strategic thinking, policy development, research, relationship-building, and high‑quality written advocacy work. You’ll work closely with the Policy & Advocacy Manager and team members across the Indigenous Australia Program, with the flexibility to work from home and travel across Australia as required. Key Responsibilities • Develop and deliver robust policy positions and government relations strategies. • Build and strengthen relationships with government, peak bodies, sector partners and community stakeholders. • Prepare high‑quality written materials including submissions, briefing papers, and discussion papers. • Lead or contribute to advocacy initiatives, social justice priorities, and regional engagement activities. • Support knowledge sharing, policy translation, and capability building across the team. • Participate in relevant forums, committees, and working groups to influence systemic change. • Support project planning that translates policy goals into practical action. What We’re Looking For • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and strong cultural capability. • Strong understanding of government processes, political systems, and stakeholder engagement. • High-level writing, research, and policy analysis skills. • Excellent relationship management skills and confidence working with diverse stakeholders. • Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking ability. • Someone adaptable, proactive, and capable of working autonomously within a dispersed team.
