T he Diocese has many provincial centres and large rural areas. The Role The Safeguarding Coordinator role will see you undertake a range of Safeguarding policy framework training and education activities, reportable conduct case management and associated incident investigation and regulatory reporting duties for the Ballarat Diocese and Parishes. Working closely with the Bishop, Business Manager and Professional Standards Committee, you will apply your previous experience in a similar Safeguarding role to undertake legislatively compliant Safeguarding investigations, reporting, document management activities. Your responsibilities will also include acting as Executive Officer to the Professional Standards Committee and maintaining the associated risk register and Safeguarding audit processes as well as reasonable travel to the Parish locations. You will use your excellent stakeholder management experience to proactively engage with Diocese and parish personnel, program participants, and any relevant government regulatory representatives throughout the investigations and reporting processes. You will also ensure that all investigations, reporting, recommendations, and documentation are undertaken and completed in line with their specific legislative and audit requirements. This position would suit a candidate who has previously undertaken Safeguarding regulatory responsibilities in line with standards and legislation such as the Victorian Child Safe Standards, National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, Child Safety, Crimes, Disability, Aged Care Acts (for example). Duties Manage the Diocesan wide adherence and ongoing implementation of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards. Build and strengthen the Diocesan Safeguarding Framework by developing and adding to safeguarding materials including appropriate policies and procedures Provide incident reporting guidance to members of the Ballarat Diocese team Support broader governance and audit projects as required Undertake travel throughout the Diocese area (a fleet car and associated travel expenses are provided) Skills & Experience Experience in a similar Safeguarding role is essential (5years ) Demonstrated expertise in conducting reportable incident investigations and the associated reporting requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills including stakeholder management, incident investigation, report writing and associated document management skills Ability to work autonomously and efficiently to manage a range of hard deadlines and reporting and audit documentation requirements Positive and proactive approach with exceptional attention to detail An Australian university bachelor’s degree level qualification (equiv. or above) is essential.
