We’re looking for a Head of Tech Risk Partnering to lead our first line technology risk partnering and divisional controls capability. This role is the single point of expert leadership for technology risk and controls , providing controls, compliance and risk assurance support to Technology leadership and enabling safe delivery of outcomes within risk appetite. You’ll build and lead a high‑performing team that strengthens the end‑to‑end control environment across Technology, covering technology, security and data controls , obligations management, risk profiling, event/issue management, and audit readiness while partnering closely with 2nd Line and assurance stakeholders. A core expectation of this role is genuine enthusiasm for using AI and automation to modernise everyday risk and compliance processes, simplifying evidence capture, improving monitoring and reporting, and reducing manual workload while ensuring responsible and governed use. What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities) 1) Lead technology risk partnering & divisional controls (1st Line) Act as a common point of expert leadership providing first line controls, compliance and risk assurance support to Technology management. Partner with senior leaders to continue building a strong risk culture across Technology. Develop and lead a high-performing team, supporting competency development and training for direct reports. 2) Technology risk profile, obligations & control environment uplift Identify operational risks and regulatory obligations, conduct impact assessments, and drive necessary changes within the Bank. Maintain and oversee the technology/system risk profile , continuously improving by prioritising and mitigating identified risks. Facilitate risk profiling , including identification and ongoing assessment of risk/control health, and contribute to key indicators for ongoing monitoring and core metrics reporting. Support and drive controls standards , including control identification/design and scalable self‑assessment and monitoring practices. 3) Framework-based advice that enables delivery Advise business leaders on the application of risk and compliance management frameworks to evaluate risks and optimise business outcomes. Provide specialised advice and guidance on Risk and Compliance Policy and Framework as it applies to technology, security and data controls Maintain exceptional communication with Leadership Teams across Ubank and NAB and senior stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency. 4) Improve systems, processes and ways of working (incl. squads) Engage and manage senior stakeholders to enhance business systems and processes through integrated risk and compliance strategies. Work effectively within distributed squad structures , influencing prioritisation and embedding controls into delivery. 5) Event/issue management, assurance & audit readiness Provide comprehensive guidance across risk and control items including Risks, Obligations, Events, Change, and related Policies , and drive remediation for control gaps. Support event/issue management quality, root cause insights and uplift actions to reduce recurrence. Provide evidence and coordination support for Internal/External Audit and other assurance activity; ensure timely closure of audit and assurance findings Assist in regulatory responses and engagement matters, ensuring timely and effective management. Support stakeholder compliance with relevant regulatory standards (including APRA ADI standards where applicable) 6) Technology operations & change risk leadership (practical, hands-on) Take the lead on key initiatives and drive execution of technology risk strategies. Bring strong awareness of technology operations and resilience disciplines (e.g., incident management, service management, patching, disaster recovery, capacity management) to enable practical risk decisions. 7) AI & automation to modernise risk and compliance (critical capability) Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve everyday risk and compliance processes (e.g., evidence capture, monitoring, reporting, triage and workflow). Ensure AI use is responsible and well-governed—appropriate oversight, validation, and safe data handling—while delivering measurable efficiency and control reliability. What You’ll Bring (Skills & Experience) 15 years’ experience in operational risk management and/or technology risk partnering within complex organisations. Outstanding knowledge of risk management and compliance disciplines, with a pragmatic, commercially astute approach. Extensive technology domain experience and strong analytical capability with keen attention to detail. Strong organisational skills, exceptional time management, adaptability and ability to deliver results at pace. Excellent written and verbal communication, sound judgment and problem‑solving ability; credible with executive stakeholders. Proven stakeholder engagement and influence across matrixed delivery models and squads . Background in IT and strategic execution; ability to translate strategy into operating rhythm, metrics and uplift roadmap.
