About the roles As a Senior Ecologist, you will: Play a key role in mentoring junior staff and will have clear opportunities to grow your leadership, client management and project direction skills over time Lead and deliver terrestrial ecology assessments and surveys across South East and/or Central Queensland. Prepare and review high-quality ecological reports that meet State and local planning scheme requirements. Provide technical advice to clients and regulators, ensuring projects comply with relevant legislation and policy. Support junior ecologists, contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture. Help build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive, professional service. The Ecologist role is ideal for a developing ecologist who wants hands‑on field experience, close guidance from senior practitioners and a clear pathway into more advanced technical and project management responsibilities. As an Ecologist (particularly for the Central Queensland/Rockhampton role), you will: Assist with planning and undertaking terrestrial ecological field surveys. Contribute to the preparation of ecological reports and environmental assessments. Support senior staff with data analysis, mapping and project delivery. Build your technical skills and industry knowledge through on-the-job mentoring and diverse project experience. What you’ll bring For the Senior Ecologist role, you will have: A degree in ecology, environmental science or a related discipline. Approximately 7 years’ relevant professional experience, ideally within consulting and/or State or local government. Other experience will be considered. Demonstrated experience in terrestrial ecological surveys, impact assessment and mitigation. Strong experience preparing and reviewing ecological reports to satisfy State and council planning scheme requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and confidence engaging with clients and regulators. For the Ecologist role, you will have: A relevant environmental or ecological degree. Some experience in ecology or environmental consulting (e.g. graduate-mid level), with a strong interest in terrestrial ecology. Sound field skills and a willingness to travel for survey work.
