Deputy Principal Engineer – EWIS Maritime SPO Location: Russell Offices, Canberra ACT Contract Duration: April 2026 – April 2027 Clearance: NV2 (Minimum Required) About the Role The EWIS Maritime System Program Office (SPO) is delivering critical upgrades to the Royal Australian Navy's Electronic Warfare Capability (EWC) under the broader Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems – Maritime (EWIS-M) program. An opportunity exists for a Deputy Principal Engineer to support engineering governance, assurance, and capability delivery within an Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) environment. Working under the direction of the Principal Engineer , this role is responsible for ensuring engineering outcomes are aligned with CASG Engineering & Technical (E&T) policy , RAN Seaworthiness requirements , and Defence capability lifecycle frameworks. Key Responsibilities Engineering Governance & Assurance Manage and continuously improve the Engineering Management System (EMS) framework and associated documentation Ensure compliance with CASG E&T policies and RAN Seaworthiness frameworks Maintain AEO delegations and engineering authority registers Seaworthiness & Regulatory Transition Lead the SPO's transition from legacy frameworks to the Seaworthiness AMSDO construct Ensure engineering practices align with Defence regulatory requirements Reporting & Stakeholder Support Prepare Quarterly Principal Engineer reports and executive briefing material Provide technical and risk advice to SPO leadership and stakeholders Deliver monthly status reports outlining progress, risks, and forward plans Engineering Leadership & Continuous Improvement Support professional development through Quarterly PE forums Provide engineering policy guidance across the SPO Establish and maintain engineering quality control processes Technical Oversight Participate in Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) Conduct technical investigations and provide SME advice Lead and manage assigned engineering activities Stakeholder Engagement Liaise with Defence, Navy, CASG, and industry stakeholders Coordinate and facilitate technical meetings, reviews, and workshops Key Deliverables Quarterly Principal Engineer Reports and briefing packs Monthly Status Reports (progress, risks, forecast activities) Updated Engineering Management Plan (EMP) aligned to AMSDO and Defence policy Ongoing engineering governance artefacts and documentation Required Experience & Qualifications Essential Degree-qualified in Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia or equivalent) Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status Minimum 8 years' experience in: Engineering management, OR Design, sustainment, or maintenance within regulated environments Demonstrated experience in Defence, maritime, or complex systems engineering environments Strong knowledge of: CASG Engineering & Technical frameworks Seaworthiness / AEO constructs Defence capability lifecycle (ODCS / ASDEFCON alignment) Desirable Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Engineering Management, Project Management) Experience supporting SPO environments or Navy programs Familiarity with engineering governance, assurance, and certification processes
