Audit & Assurance Officer - Policies, Performance & Review Location: Sydney, Western Suburbs Rate: $79.21 p/hr super Contract: 12 Months Working Model: Hybrid (2 days WFH) Start Date: Immediate/ASAP Primary Purpose of the Role The Audit & Assurance Officer undertakes independent reviews across Council operations in line with the approved audit program. The role focuses on strengthening governance, risk management and internal controls by applying a systematic and disciplined audit approach, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the development and ongoing refinement of the strategic internal audit plan . Deliver risk-based internal audits in accordance with the annual audit program, including planning, fieldwork, reporting and follow-up of agreed actions. Conduct investigations into suspected fraud, corruption, and misconduct , ensuring appropriate escalation and reporting. Perform probity and assurance reviews across Council functions and projects. Support the coordination and preparation of Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) meetings, including reporting and documentation. Monitor and review the effectiveness of internal audit frameworks, systems and processes , driving continuous improvement. Build strong relationships and effectively engage stakeholders across all levels of the organisation. Attend Council and Committee meetings as required and provide expert audit advice. Undertake additional duties aligned to the role and organisational priorities. Qualifications & Experience Essential Degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting or related discipline Professional qualification such as CA, CPA, IPA or equivalent Demonstrated experience in internal audit, risk, or assurance functions Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage across all organisational levels Proven ability to analyse complex issues and provide practical solutions Desirable Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) qualification 8 years’ experience in internal audit or assurance Experience within local government or public sector If you are interested, click "apply" and we will be in touch.
