And as a permanent Legal Costing Solicitor, that starts with you. You’ll deliver expert legal costing guidance to our Victorian teams, ensuring cost recovery is optimised across every matter. You’ll support best practice, enhance our costing capability, and contribute to stronger outcomes for both our clients and our legal teams. Reporting to our National Legal Costing Manager, this is an excellent opportunity to step away from front‑line casework in the Victorian personal injury jurisdiction, and move into an advisory role that shapes best practice in legal costing across our teams. While our legal costing team is centralised in Melbourne CBD, we are open to the successful candidate working from an alternate office in Shine Lawyers Victoria, whilst maintaining the requirements of your role. And while this role is full-time, we are also open to discussions around a flexible work arrangement for the right candidate with relevant experience. With empathy, adaptability and initiative, you will be: Advising Legal, Settlement and Third-Party Recovery teams on all aspects of cost management, including costs agreements, cost recovery strategies, and negotiation of settlements. Providing recommendations on optimal costing methodologies across various jurisdictions to maximise case recoverability. Offering advice on improving time recording practices to enhance cost recovery efficiency. Providing guidance on sanctioned cases, including preparation of itemised accounts for submission to trustees. Preparing accurate and comprehensive costs assessments for compulsory conferences, mediations, and post-resolution proceedings to optimise recovery. Producing itemised accounts of costs and disbursements, on request. What you’ll bring Experience as a personal injury solicitor in Victoria Experience and/or the desire to pursue a career in legal costing. Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving skills Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage internal stakeholders, clients, and third parties, including external cost assessors. Foundational statistical and numerical understanding of data, including strong Microsoft Excel skills and attention to detail. A commitment to truly connect with those around you and work together to deliver exceptional results for our clients. The ability to deliver outcomes across a variety of competing priorities.
