Catchment Simulation Solutions (CSS) is a specialist engineering consultancy providing hydrologic modelling, floodplain management and water resource engineering services across New South Wales. Our clients include local councils, infrastructure developers and government agencies requiring specialised flood modelling and water engineering expertise. Due to continued growth in project demand and the expansion of flood risk and water modelling projects, we are seeking a qualified Civil Engineer to join our Sydney-based engineering team. Position Overview The Civil Engineer will contribute to the delivery of flood studies, floodplain risk management projects and hydraulic modelling assessments for development and infrastructure planning. The role requires the application of civil engineering principles, hydrologic modelling techniques and spatial analysis tools to assess flood risk, support water management planning and assist with infrastructure development. Key Responsibilities The Civil Engineer will be responsible for: Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for flood studies, floodplain risk management plans and water resource assessments Developing and calibrating hydraulic models using specialised engineering software including TUFLOW Analysing rainfall-runoff processes and catchment hydrology to evaluate flood risks and drainage performance Preparing technical engineering reports, modelling documentation and flood impact assessments for planning and infrastructure projects Performing spatial analysis and GIS data processing using QGIS Supporting the design and assessment of drainage infrastructure, flood mitigation strategies and water management solutions Reviewing modelling results and ensuring compliance with Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) guidelines and relevant engineering standards Liaising with project managers, engineers and external stakeholders to deliver engineering projects within required timelines Minimum Requirements Applicants must demonstrate: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification At least 3 years experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for flood studies or water resource projects Experience using software such as TUFLOW, WBNM or similar tools Proficiency in GIS software including QGIS Strong analytical, engineering reporting and technical problem-solving skills Desirable Skills The following experience will be highly regarded: Experience in floodplain risk management studies and flood impact assessments Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or 12d design software Knowledge of Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) guidelines
