A leading Victorian University based in Bundoora is seeking a skilled and proactive Technical Officer (Clinical Biology) to join the STEM College. This role is a direct result of exciting growth within our department following the introduction of a new course.You will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of our Microbiology and Cell Culture laboratories. Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, you will ensure our facilities remain a world-class environment for teaching, research, and innovation.Key Responsibilities Lab Operations: Coordinate daily activities within Clinical Biology labs, ensuring all spaces are clean, safe, and fully operational. Technical Support: Provide expert advice and "hands-on" assistance to students and staff regarding lab practices and equipment. Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory instrumentation is serviced, calibrated, and documented according to preventative maintenance plans. Documentation: Develop and maintain essential lab records, including SOPs, SWIs, chemical registers, and Risk Assessments. Academic Support: Partner with academic staff to prepare materials, reagents, and equipment for practical classes and activities. Safety & Compliance: Implement and uphold strict OHS standards, ensuring all users complete necessary inductions and follow safety protocols. About YouYou are a detail-oriented technical professional with a passion for biological sciences. You thrive in a client-centric environment and enjoy the "agile" nature of a busy university laboratory.Required Experience & Skills: Aseptic Technique: Mastery of sterile conditions, biosafety cabinets, and contamination prevention. Microbial Culture: Expert in streak/spread plating, inoculations, and quantification (serial dilutions). Cell Culturing: Experience with mammalian cell lines (adherent/suspension), media formulation, cryopreservation, and mycoplasma testing. Microscopy: Proficient in brightfield microscopy, Gram staining, and differential staining. Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Microbiology, Cell Culture, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline. A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) is mandatory. Experience in a tertiary teaching laboratory is highly preferred. Desirable Skills Experience with ELISA and Immunofluorescence assays. Molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, QRT-PCR, Western Blotting). Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) frameworks.
