Mechanical Project Engineer South East Melbourne 12 Month Contract Competitive Daily Rate Lead mechanical engineering delivery across complex industrial capital projects, supporting upgrades to critical processing equipment and infrastructure. We are partnering with a large Australian industrial organisation to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical and structural upgrades across a major production facility. This is a contract opportunity working within a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering equipment upgrades, piping systems and mechanical infrastructure improvements across multiple capital projects. You will play a key role in ensuring projects move effectively from engineering design through procurement, installation and commissioning within a complex industrial environment. The Role: Reporting into the Senior Project Manager / Engineering Leader, you will: Support the delivery of mechanical capital projects including equipment upgrades and plant improvements Lead the day-to-day coordination of project activities including contractor supervision and stakeholder liaison Develop and review mechanical designs including piping systems, fluid flow systems and structural components Work closely with mechanical design and drafting teams to produce equipment layouts and detailed drawings Perform engineering analysis and calculations including piping, flow systems and basic structural analysis Prepare work scopes, tender documentation and support equipment procurement processes Manage project budgets, schedules and contractor performance across assigned work packages Conduct constructability reviews and support hazard and risk analysis activities Oversee QA processes relating to equipment procurement and installation Support site installation activities and supervise contractors during project delivery Develop commissioning plans and participate in commissioning of equipment and process systems Work closely with electrical, process and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery About You: We are seeking a technically capable and delivery-focused engineer who brings: Mechanical Engineering degree qualification 5–10 years’ experience within heavy industry, manufacturing or similar industrial environments Experience delivering mechanical components of capital projects Strong knowledge of piping systems, fluid mechanics and mechanical equipment design Experience reviewing engineering drawings including layouts, manufacturing drawings and P&IDs Exposure to pressure piping (AS4041) and structural components such as platforms or equipment supports Experience supervising contractors and site installation activities Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across engineering and operations teams Exposure to project management disciplines including cost, schedule and risk management Experience with AutoCAD or 3D modelling tools and heavy industrial site environments will be highly regarded. This role requires a hands-on mechanical engineer with strong project delivery capability , able to balance engineering design with practical site execution. Why This Role?
