We are partnering with a leading Australian industrial organisation to appoint an experienced Automation Project Engineer to support the delivery of critical capital projects within a large-scale manufacturing environment.This role will play a key part in delivering automation upgrades and improvements across multiple production systems. Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design, programming, commissioning and optimisation of PLC and SCADA systems that underpin highly automated industrial processes. You will operate at the centre of project execution; ensuring automation solutions are technically robust, safe, and aligned to operational performance requirements. The Role Reporting into the Project Manager, you will: Deliver automation work packages across multiple capital projects within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment Design and develop PLC and Safety PLC programming for automated systems Configure and commission HMI and SCADA platforms including system specifications and integration Set up and configure new PLC hardware and software systems from the ground up Navigate, modify and optimise existing PLC code to support upgrades and improvements Develop commissioning strategies, validation plans and testing procedures for automation systems Support installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of automation and electrical control systems Design electrical and automation control systems including HMI architecture and operator interface functionality Produce technical documentation including functional descriptions, specifications and design reports Develop electrical and control system design drawings such as single line diagrams, MCC schematics, panel layouts and network architectures Select and integrate appropriate automation technologies including PLCs, drives, sensors, instrumentation and actuators Collaborate with project engineers, operations and technical teams to ensure successful project delivery Ensure all engineering work aligns with relevant engineering, safety and technical standards This role requires a technically strong automation engineer who is comfortable working across both design and hands-on commissioning environments. About You We are seeking a highly capable automation engineer who brings: Degree qualifications in Electrical, Automation or Control Systems Engineering 7 years’ experience delivering automation engineering solutions within industrial or manufacturing environments Strong PLC and SCADA programming capability, particularly within Siemens automation platforms (S7-300 / S7-1500) Experience developing and commissioning HMI and SCADA systems (e.g. Citect, WinCC, PanelView) Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet and Profibus Ability to interpret and troubleshoot using P&ID drawings and electrical schematics Experience delivering automation components of capital projects within multi-disciplinary teams Strong documentation capability including technical specifications and control system design documents Hands-on commissioning experience within live industrial environments Experience with material handling systems, cranes, drives, instrumentation or warehouse automation systems will be highly regarded.
