Private Equity Part-Time Sydney or Melbourne An established growth investment platform is seeking an experienced Portfolio Director to play a pivotal role in overseeing and accelerating the performance of a portfolio of Australian SMEs. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with founders and CEOs, providing strategic and governance leadership while supporting long-term value creation. This investor provides patient, minority growth capital to profitable and expanding Australian businesses. With significant capital to deploy over the coming years, the platform partners with ambitious management teams to scale sustainably while preserving founder control. The approach is hands-on, long-term and built on alignment. As Portfolio Director, you will serve as an active owner and Board Director across a subset of portfolio companies. You will partner closely with CEOs and executive teams as a trusted adviser, providing guidance on growth strategy, capital allocation, organisational effectiveness, risk management and performance optimisation. You will contribute to board discussions, uphold strong governance standards and help shape key strategic decisions. This is a part-time position requiring approximately six days per month, with the majority of time concentrated in the final two weeks of each month to align with board cycles. The role is based in Sydney or Melbourne and involves some domestic travel. The ideal candidate brings more than ten years’ experience in private equity, growth capital, or principal investing with meaningful exposure to active portfolio management. You have a demonstrated track record of working constructively with management teams to drive value creation within operating businesses, ideally within SMEs or mid-market companies. You bring strong financial and commercial acumen, board-level experience or comparable governance exposure, and the ability to balance empathy and support with challenge and accountability.
