POSITION SUMMARY The Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing Worker is a part time role focussed on providing on culturally safe support to Aboriginal young people experiencing mental health concerns, social and emotional wellbeing challenges, or early signs of psychological distress. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply. The Role Focuses On Early intervention Youth engagement Mental health promotion Delivery of culturally informed group-based wellbeing programs The Worker Will Assess young people Identify risks Co-develop goals Provide brief intervention Deliver psychoeducation Make supported referrals This role collaborates closely with the SEWB team, schools, youth services, and Swan Hill District Health Services to ensure coordinated care and strong pathways to additional supports. Key Responsibilities Case Management Use youth-appropriate assessment tools to identify mental health, wellbeing and psychosocial needs. Provide early intervention and culturally informed brief therapeutic supports. Facilitate referrals to services such as headspace, CAMHS and other mental health specialists. Apply harm minimisation and trauma‑informed practices. Co-develop goals with young people and monitor progress. Maintain accurate documentation and case notes. Service Delivery Deliver youth wellbeing groups, resilience programs, cultural healing activities and mental health promotion workshops. Support school and community mental health initiatives. Provide outreach to young people and families. Develop culturally grounded resources to strengthen identity and connection. Engage young people in co-designing programs that reflect their needs. Relationship Management Maintain strong relationships with agencies to benefit both clients and MDAS. Attend meetings, forums and training to integrate best practice and current research. Work collaboratively with internal teams to streamline intake, assessment and referral processes. Corporate Responsibilities Uphold values that respect Aboriginal cultures and connections to Country. Key Selection Criteria Youth Wellbeing Support Qualifications, skills and experience in evidence‑based youth support, including trauma‑informed practice and harm minimisation. Ability to deliver group programs, psychoeducation and wellbeing activities. Ability to build rapport with Aboriginal young people and families. Communication & Interpersonal Skills Strong liaison skills with schools, youth services and mental health providers. Ability to advocate for young people navigating services. Strong cultural knowledge and ability to incorporate it into wellbeing planning. Problem Solving, Organisation & Planning Experience planning youth groups, workshops or community programs. Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and track outcomes. Respect for Cultural Diversity Commitment to culturally inclusive services for Aboriginal people. Willingness to learn about other cultures to strengthen relationships and improve services. QUALIFICATIONS Certificate IV in Community Services, AOD, or Mental Health or willingness to complete within 12 months.
