The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity, and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water. The Position We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience in both Traditional Owner engagement and government processes, along with strong communication and project management skills. As part of the broader drive of the Reef Authority to increase co-management, you will engage with Traditional Owners and across the Reef Authority and other managing agencies to increase meaningful partnerships between Traditional Owners. This will include delivering Sea Country Values Mapping projects, in partnership with Traditional Owners. The role includes project and contract management of the development of new mapping projects, coordination of this work and implementing its outcomes with other areas of the Marine Operations Branch and the broader Reef Authority. You will communicate and promote activities to a diverse range of audiences and coordinate an interrelated range of projects to ensure alignment and results. You will be a team player, working closely and collaboratively with other areas of the Reef Authority, the Australian and Queensland governments’ Reef Joint Field Management Program and a diverse network of stakeholders and Traditional Owners. About You You have experience in Traditional Owner engagement, with a strong record of fostering collaborative partnerships that bring benefits and outcomes for both Traditional Owners and environmental management. You are experienced in project management, governance, procurement and/or contract management, with an awareness of government processes. You are a natural problem solver, an innovator, known for taking initiative and seeing things through. You have excellent communication, relationship and stakeholder management skills and enjoy being part of a cohesive team who achieves results. You are an excellent communicator, in both written and verbal forms including producing promotion content. Your communication and exceptional interpersonal skills ensure positive collaboration across a range of internal and external stakeholders and assist on a range of diverse projects. You are recognised for your ability to manage sensitive and confidential information. You thrive on working collaboratively and can prioritise and align operational activities and organisational objectives. The key duties of the position include: Engage and work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including Traditional Owner groups, Registered Native Title Body Corporates, Prescribed Body Corporates and government agencies, to facilitate the development and/or implementation of Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements. Manage and support a portfolio of complex TUMRA and related projects including planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation, and lead or participate in project teams to develop, implement and manage contracts in partnership with Traditional Owners and other partners. Work collaboratively across the Reef Authority and with partners and stakeholders on both strategic and operational matters, representing the views and interests of the Reef Authority and Traditional Owners in a range of meetings, forums and engagements. Provide clear advice and report to management on Traditional Owner related issues relevant to Marine Park management and/or on culturally appropriate approaches to Sea Country and Marine Park planning, regulation and policy development. Strengthen organisational capability and practices in working with Traditional Owners by building and maintaining productive internal and external relationships, sharing knowledge and contributing to tools, guidance and systems that support the Reef Authority in delivering its corporate goals and objectives. Actively contribute, as a committed team member of the TUMRA section by managing own work priorities, monitoring progress to achieve agreed outcome, supporting demonstrating the ability to be agile and responsive to changing requirements while delivering on the Reef Authority’s corporate objectives.
