Sovereign Hill – Chief Executive Officer The Board of the Sovereign Hill Museums Association (Sovereign Hill) invites applications for an outstanding Chief Executive Officer to lead one of Australia’s most prominent cultural and tourism institutions in its next phase of ambitious growth and capital investment. Located on Wadawurrung Country in Ballarat, Sovereign Hill is nationally and internationally recognised, operating the Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA, Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades, and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. With approximately 500,000 annual visitors and a collection exceeding 150,000 items, Sovereign Hill is a leader in immersive heritage experiences, cultural tourism and living museum practice. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will provide strategic and commercial leadership to advance Sovereign Hill’s mission and continue to strengthen its position as an iconic visitor destination of national significance. A core focus of the role is overseeing the implementation of an ambitious 20-year Master Plan, including major capital works, the development of new immersive experiences and the establishment of a significant cultural precinct. Leading a workforce of more than 360 employees and 250 volunteers, the CEO will foster a high-performance, values-driven culture that delivers excellence in visitor experience, while maintaining cultural authenticity and achieving strong commercial outcomes. Candidates will have a track record of leading complex, multi-site organisations in visitor-focused, place-based or comparable sectors.
