We are seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical) to join a major resources team for an initial 6-month assignment. Roster: Monday to Friday Location: Perth CBD Start: ASAP start Hourly rate: $95 - $110 p/h Super depending on experience The Role: The Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical) will be responsible for leading a team of multi-disciplinary professionals to support and complete technical assessments, design and technical assurance for a wide range of water projects across various mine sites and project portfolio. The Principal Design Engineer will take a lead role in compiling water infrastructure designs, monitoring design progress and providing review and guidance to design engineers in the team according to the relevant Australian and company standards to ensure safe and cost-effective project delivery. Key Responsibilities: Developing water management strategies and review water management plans across the lifecycle of a wide range of projects Prepare project scopes, technical specifications, design reporting and technical documents, summarizing recommendations and work performed, concisely and to a high standard. Provide technical support to a diverse team of professionals across multiple parts of the value chain (including design engineers, project engineers, consultants, and contractors). Hydraulic modelling and calculations to inform design of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, tanks and other water management infrastructure. Preparation and compilation of technical deliverables including construction drawings, quantity estimate, pipeline schematics, GA's, P&ID's and critical equipment selection. Preparation and compilation of design reports and technical memoranda. Facilitate project design reviews including field inspection, stakeholder requirements and conformity to basis of design criteria. Input to capital estimates including quantity calculations (including compilation of MTOs). Co-ordinate operational readiness requirements of the project. Ensuring schedule compliance and escalating schedule risk as required. Construction support through Technical Queries and updates to design deliverable documentation as required. Produce equipment data sheets and evaluate vendor proposals for budget and technical compliance. Ensure designs are produced in accordance with statutory regulations, project requirements, good practice and procedural requirements. Clear and timely communication regarding design progress, changes, risks and issues. Essential Skills & Experience: Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), or Chemical Engineering or Civil Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia. Minimum of 10 years mechanical piping systems and pipeline design experience, ideally within the mining industry and/or engineering consultancy experience. Understanding of Australian and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and water industries. Excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills A problem-solving mentality with the ability to "think outside of the box".
