The Compliance Officer reports directly to the Director of Staffing and provides support to ensure the School meets its compliance and workplace health and safety obligations. The role is centred on maintaining accurate registers, monitoring staff compliance requirements, coordinating WHS processes, and ensuring that policies and procedures are implemented effectively across the School. Working closely with staff and leaders, the Compliance Officer coordinates compliance activities, tracks renewals and certifications, and supports the effective functioning of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee. The position also carries designated responsibilities as the School’s Chief Fire Warden and Secretary to the WHS Committee, ensuring strong systems are in place for safety, emergency management, and reporting. Driving good business practices and seamless operations forms the foundation of our strategic approach. As this role is integral to the School’s compliance with NSW education requirements, the Compliance Officer will also support accreditation, professional learning, and curriculum-related obligations. Responsibilities Legislative and Policy Compliance: Interpret relevant legislation and regulatory change to support the development, review and update of School policies and procedures. Embed compliance in established systems and processes to align with legislative and regulatory requirements. Maintain compliance registers and tracking systems (e.g. Working With Children Checks, employee qualifications) and monitor renewals. Assist in Registration and Compliance processes as required by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Assist the Director of Staffing in preparing reports on compliance activities, certification status, and training completion rates. Provide staff with updates on new compliance requirements introduced under NSW legislation or NESA guidance. Workplace Health and Safety: Serve as Secretary to the WHS Committee, including organising meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring follow-up on action items. Act as the School’s Chief Fire Warden, coordinating evacuation drills, emergency management procedures, and compliance with fire safety requirements. Serve as the Workplace Health and Safety and Return to Work Coordinator and maintain accurate and accessible WHS documentation, registers, and policies in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), the School’s Return to Work Program and associated regulations. Utilise the School’s incident reporting system to record staff incidents, notify insurers, and assist the Director of Staffing with investigations, workplace injury management, and return-to-work processes. Support risk assessments, safety inspections, and WHS audits across both campuses. Other Duties: Support internal and external audits and provide documentation as required. Support staff training and induction processes, as required. Other duties as directed by the Director of Staffing. Skills and Qualifications Previous professional experience in the fields of education, law and/or compliance would be an advantage. Knowledge of or willingness to attain knowledge of NESA Teacher Accreditation processes, including monitoring of professional learning hours and compliance with mandatory training. Demonstrated experience in compliance administration, workplace health and safety, or a related operational role within an educational or large organisational setting. Working knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth compliance frameworks, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 (NSW), privacy legislation, and anti-discrimination requirements. Proficiency in record keeping and data entry using compliance and HR systems to maintain accurate registers, track obligations, and generate reports.
