Byron Shire Council is currently seeking a Rough Sleeping Project Officer to join the Backbone Team of the Ending Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire - a community-led, place-based initiative to end homelessness, starting with rough sleeping. With a membership of over 30 diverse organisations, our work is founded on the idea that homelessness can be solved when we work together to identify and address the root causes of homelessness and the housing crisis. It’s an exciting time to join the Backbone Team. As a key member of the team supporting the Collaboration, the initial focus of the role (first three months) is: Supporting the development and implementation of the Collaboration’s Shared Action Plan for change. Coordinating and facilitating the monthly Byron Shire Service Coordination Group which brings local services together to coordinate care, allocate support and increase housing outcomes for people sleeping rough. Supporting a small team of Lived Experience Homelessness Consultants who shape and guide the initiative. Chairing Byron Shire Council’s Homelessness Internal Working Group to support consistent and compassionate responses to homelessness across Council. Supporting the Backbone Lead – Ending Rough Sleeping Collaboration with the daily operations of the initiative. Please note this is an initial fixed term contract from 23 March - 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension. About you: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Impact, Social Policy, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field or transferable equivalent experience. Three (3) years or more experience working in the Homelessness Sector or related field. Demonstrated ability to co-deliver Collective Impact informed projects. Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and lead strategic partnerships to achieve shared goals, as well as excellent communication, consultation, engagement, and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated high level project management skills with the proven ability to meet agreed deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and analytically, carry out social research and to develop new policy or project options, to contribute to ending homelessness. Demonstrated knowledge of the Advance to Zero Methodology to end homelessness (preferred). We offer: A permanent part time position (4 days per week / 28 hours per week) Fixed term contract initially from 23 March - 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension Flexible working arrangements Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $1,615.14 to $1,871.39 per 35 hour week (dependent upon skills and experience). Part- time roles would be pro-rata.
